In this tutorial, we’ll demonstrate how to draw a Vectorplot in Glimpse to visualize wind patterns.
First, add in the data from this .txt file.
Then, under Visual > Mark in the Inspector panel, set the Mark type to Shape.
Drag the quantitative fields x into the X encoding and y into the Y encoding.
Next, drag the quantitative field Length into the Size encoding and in the Inspector panel under Visual > Encoding, deactivate Legend.
Then the last quantitative field to add in is Direction, which needs to be dragged into the Rotation encoding (for now this is not visible).
To convert the marks into arrows, go to the Inspector panel under Visual > Mark > Contents and select this arrow from the Shape dropdown menu:
To make the arrows clearer, go Visual > Mark > Color, set the Color to Black and from the Apply As menu select Fill Color. The vectorplot is now complete:
