In this tutorial, we’ll demonstrate how to draw a Streamgraph in Glimpse to visualize the the change in employment over time for a number of different industries.

First, add in the data by going Data > Sample Data > unemployment-across-industries.json from the top menu.

Then, under Visual > Mark in the Inspector panel, set the Mark type to Area.

Drag the temporal field date into the X encoding to set the timescale X-axis.

After, drag the quantitative field count in to the Y encoding and after in the Inspector panel, set the Aggregate to SUM and the Stack to Centreline.

Also, drag the nominal field series into the Color encoding.

To move the legend to the top, in the Inspector panel go Visual > Encoding > Legend > Layout and set the Orient to Outer Top.

To get all the legend labels into view, set the Counts to 3 Columns.

This concludes this tutorial on drawing a Streamgraph. If you want to further customize your chart, please read the documentation.
