Stacked Area Graph

In this tutorial, we’ll demonstrate how to draw a Stacked Area Graph in Glimpse to visualize the change in greenhouse gas emissions by industry sector from 1970 to 2016.

First, add in the data by downloading or copying the data from here.

Then, under Visual > Mark in the Inspector panel, set the Mark Type to Area.

Drag the field Date into the X encoding and in the Inspector panel, change the Measure type to Nominal

Then, drag the field Mt CO2eq/year into the Y encoding.

The last field is Sector, which needs to be dragged into the Color encoding.

To move the legend to the top so that the graph is not too squashed, go Visual > Encoding > Legend > Layout in the Inspector panel and set the Orient to outer top.

This concludes this tutorial on drawing a Stacked Area Graph. If you want to further customize your chart, please read the documentation.
