Nightingale Rose Chart

In this tutorial, we’ll demonstrate how to draw a Nightingale Rose Chart in Glimpse to visualize the different causes of death over time.

First, add in the data from the table below:

Then, under Visual > Mark in the Inspector panel, set the Mark type to Arc.

Drag the field Date into the Angle encoding.

After, in the Inspector panel, change the Measure type to Nominal.

Then, drag the Deaths field into the Radius encoding.

Finally, drag the Cause of death field into the Color encoding.

To have the segments running clockwise, in the Inspector panel go Visual > Mark > Orient and set the Rotation to 270°.
